(National Health) by Sadik Sadiković is one of the most enduring legacies of Balkan folk medicine. First published in 1928, this seminal work remains a household staple for those seeking natural remedies and holistic wisdom. Who Was Sadik Sadiković?
The book is often referred to as a "pearl of herbalism" and a "library for every house". It serves as a practical guide to self-healing when professional medical help is unavailable or when conventional treatments have failed. Sadik Sadiković (1872-1940) - monumento Find a Grave
Born in 1867 in Ljubuški, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sadik Sadiković (died 1940) was a renowned herbalist and healer whose knowledge of medicinal plants was legendary. He came from a long line of healers, but he significantly expanded his expertise through formal education—spending ten years at a madrasa in Travnik and two years studying in Istanbul.
Sadiković was more than a local "travar" (herbalist); his reputation was such that modern medical doctors of his time reportedly consulted him in Ljubuški. He traveled extensively through Asia Minor and the Balkans, documenting herbal properties and refining a philosophy that balanced traditional wisdom with practical health preservation.
